I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, someone swearing on the Koran just seems to be to be a deliberate choice to flout our Christian traditions in the U.S. On the other hand, would someone who truly follows Islam, be more likely to respect an oath taken on the Bible or the Koran? Also, for those who do not follow the teachings in the Koran or consider it a holy book, or even possibly consider it an UNholy book, what effects would the oath on the Koran have on your opinion of the witnesses credibility? As someone who believes that the Koran is an UNholy book of lies devised by Satan to lure people away from the truth of Christianity, I think it would make me mistrust their testimony. It is my firmly held opinion that Islam is Read More »

I just found out about this totally stupid pile of crap legislation that is coming out of the House of Representatives. I wish I'd have known about it before the vote. It's the Guam WWII Loyalty Recognition Act. I wonder why this wasn't talked about in the news? Here's a little info: Introduced by Del. Madeleine Bordallo [D-GU] back in 2005, this bill, if passed by the Senate and signed into law by the President, will not only recognize the way in which Guam stood by the U.S. during WWII, it will also authorize reparations for the descendants of those killed by the Japanese enemy. Why on Earth should American taxpayers pay for reparations to the descendants of those killed by the enemy? Becaus ...

As if we didn't already know that most of the people in congress were total morons, they're poised to proove it yet again. This is probably the one area in which President Bush and I totally disagree on. The Senate is very likely to pass this "...bipartisan immigration deal that would grant legal status to millions of people in the country unlawfully...". The only place, at least in Washington, I can see where this bill has strong opposition is in the House of Representatives. Personally, I intend to keep an eye on this bill and work to defeat any incumbent that votes for it. The only way I'll actually vote for someone who supported this bill is in the event that I'm faced having to choose between two candidates who both support it.&nb ...

The owner of Arnaud's has bought an existing resturant called Country Gal's Kitchen. He's keeping the previous menu and staff, while adding in his own menu items and staff. I had lunch there today. The BBQ pork steak is just as awesome as ever. The new location is on Lower Wetumpka Road. The nearest cross street is Yarbrough Street. My Garmin Nuvi reports the gps coordinates as 32.40798 degrees North by 86.28918 degrees West. I think the place has a much better chance at remaining successful now that it's in an established location. You can even Google them and find info about the place. Here's a map.

It has recently come to my attention that Senator Loutenburg (did I spell that righ?) of NY has made a proposal to bar anyone who gets themselves on the governments terrorist "watch list" from buying a gun. At first glance that sounds like a good thing. However, after I've thought about it some, I'm not so sure. How does one get on that list? Is there some form of due process involved? Is there a court hearing where whoever wants to list you has to go before a judge and explain themselves or is it just a matter of some beurocrat writing you name down? What is the criteria they go by to decide who gets on that list? Just as important, what is the process for getting yourself removed from the list? How would one even know if they had been placed on the list? I think these que ...

This past weekend, I attended the BirmingHAMfest in Birmingham, AL. It was put on by the Birmingham Amateur Radio Club, W4CUE. It was a great hamfest. I picked up a radio for my Mom, KI4PXK, ordered some rotor cable for my tower project, and picked up an antenna switch that I'll need to get the most use out of my two meter beam antenna. The Montgomery area was very well represented. I saw several familiar faces, which I'll refrain from listing to avoid forgetting someone.
