I just stumbled upon a two part article on TheServerSide.net about NHibernate.  It's quite interesting and is probably the best write-up I've seen detailing how to actually use NHibernate.  It's in C#, however, all of the info should apply to VB.Net as well.  the parts were written in August and October of 2004 respectively.  Regardless, the info is useful and should still be good for later versions of NHibernate.

It is my understanding that there is currently a debate in the House of Representatives regarding wether or not the so-called "fairness doctrine" should be reinstated.  This is a serious misnomer.  It should be called the unfairness doctrine.  It would serve only one purpose.  That purpose would be to stifle talk radio and other mediums where conservative viewpoints are honestly presented.  The fairness doctrine, if reinstated will stifle controversial programming.  If a talk radio host talks about something that some fringe group doesn't like, that group has only to complain to the FCC and then either they get equal time to present their bizzare viewpoint at the expense of the radio station or the station loses their broadcast license.

I hope this bill, and any like it are now well and truly dead.  Click here for FoxNews.com coverage.  This is a victory for the survival of America's unique culture.  Hopefully, the Senate and House, and perhaps more importantly, the President will get it through their heads that most of the American people oppose any form of legal status being granted to the 12 million, or more depending on whose numbers you accept, illegal aliens currently squatting in our country, being a burden to our legal and healthcare systems.  Hopefully now they'll get off their collective arses and actually enforce the laws we already have and start tossing these lowlife scum back across the border.  They broke our laws to get here, therefor they've forfeited, in my opinion, any hope of ever gaining legal status.

CodeProject LogoThis CodeProject.com article has example code for serializing and deserializing collection classes (pretty much anything that inplements IEnumerable).  It's an interesting read and could be useful as a means of storing data for apps that don't warrant the overhead of using Access or a SQL rdbms.

Today, the Senate voted 64-35 to bring the bill back to the Senate floor.  The bill, if it passes the Senate and the House will, unless it's altered significantly before it gets to the President's desk, will instantly grant legal status to some 12 million illegal aliens currently infesting this country like a cancer.  As soon as I can find out the roll-call of which senators voted for the bill today, I'll post the list.  These people have now earned my opposition from now on.  They do not deserve to be re-elected and I'll do everything in my limited power to see that they are not.  I'm appalled that the President, whom I voted for twice is actually supporting this rediculous bill.  If I'd have known of his support for such legislation ahead of time I'd have been much less enthusiastic in my support for him.

CodeProject.com LogoThis CodeProject.com article shows how to use Javascript and DHTML to filter and search a table without a postback.  This technique allows you to simply return the entire recordset and let the client (browser) handle filtering and searching.  Although this might make the initial load a little slower, or a lot slower with larger record sets, you save on expensive round trips to the server.  This technique isn't a silver bullet that will be a better solution in all instances, however, it is one more tool in the developer to ... Mexican flag over upsidedown US flag. This photo just makes me sick.  This is precisely why I'm absolutely opposed to any immigration bill that includes any level of amnesty or amnesty-like provisions for the 12 million illegals who are already here.  They mock our laws and our national soverignty.  No other group of immigrants were ever granted such amnesty.

If I were to be asked what to do about the 12 million or so illegals already here, I'd suggest the following:

Target employers who hire them with very harsh penalties so that it's no longer financially rewarding or viable to use them. Make it a crime to associate in any way with an illegal alien.

LyricCode LogoToday, I downloaded and have been playing around with Engage, a start menu replacement for Windows.  If you're anything like me your start menu is out of control.  Engage replaces your standard windows start menu with a database driven, searchable application that makes it very easy to find specific programs without having to manually dig through various folders.  You can click the start button, type a few letters to narrow down the choices and then just press enter, if the search landed on the one you want, or choose from a greatly reduced set of shortcuts that ma ...
