For all Hams whose antenna farm aspirations are hindered by a low XYL acceptance factor even for the most stealthy wire antennas, show her this. If she objects to a dipole, suggest that she should consider herself lucky you aren't installing one of these. Heheheheh....
This is a true monster antenna. A thing of beauty. Large enough that if you were to stretch a tarp across it, you could use it as an umbrella for your house.

Although this isn't directly related to amateur radio, it is indirectly related since many of us are frequently involved in charging batteries. Check out this post on Tom Kyte's blog. His son left a battery charger plugged in to charge the battery for some toy (probably a remote controlled flying model) while he was away at school. The battery over heated, exploded and could have burned down the house. Good thing Tom was at home. There's a picture of the partially melted battery and charger. One interesting thing is that the green LED on the charger appears to still be lit even after the device self destructed. The warning label on the back of the charger is nearly incomprehensible. It's one of the worst English translations I've ever seen. Here's the ...

This doesn't explicitly relate to amateur radio, however, depending on how the bill in question is worded it couild have unintended ramifications for CA amateurs under 18. A new bill in the CA legislature, that the Gubinator is expected to sign into law, will ban teens under 18 from using ANY electronic device. It's aimed at cell phones and text messaging, however, if it's really that broad so as to state "any electronic device" radio amateurs will be caught in such a widely flung net. Personally I'm opposed to any such law. Although there is some evidence that lives could be saved, how would you enforce such a law? The bill even prohibits use of hands free devices. This is a very slippery slope.

I've got some good news, praise God. Dad was scheduled for a biopsy of a suspicious spot on one of his lungs today. Just prior to performing the biopsy a follow-up MRI was done to double check where they were supposed to stick the needle. The "node" the lung doc had wanted biopsied had shrunk so much that the biopsy technician person said there wasn't enough of it left to stick a needle in!!!! w0o+!!!! Your continued prayers will be very much appreciated. Thanks... --

Here's a link to the "Puppy Found" flier we placed at the local vet's office. It's hosted on Google Apps. http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=df6sbhds_0ggf4x7

A couple of days ago, on my way home from work, I spied a very young puppy, so young that the pads on his feet are still soft, sitting in the road shivering. I just couldn't bear the possiblity, very likely, that I'd see him squished on the road on my way to work the next day so I turned around at the first safe opportunity and Mom, KI4PXK, got out and grabbed him up. The poor little fella needed worming, had a few ticks attached, and was starving. His little hip bones were clearly visible. He was in front of a mail box, but given his condition I doubt he belongs at that house. As soon as I can catch them at home I'm gunna ask just to make sure. But I digress, we gave him a dose of worm medicine, went to the feed store and got a 7 in 1 puppy shot that covers the top 7 most common puppy diseases (A whopping $5.35). The little fellow didn't even whimper when Mom stuck him with the shot needle. He's ...
