First of all, as computer companies go, I truly love Dell. They make a great machine and have, in my experience, great customer service. Barring a significant negative shift in those areas, Dell will likely be my first choice recommendation to anyone looking to purchase a PC. Now, to the curious observation… I noticed today a curious aspect of Dell’s logo. The “E” in the logo is tilted. Somewhat reminiscent of the big “E” logo from an infamous energy trading company of recent ill-repute called Enron. Here are the two logos: Read More »

An interesting site where a ham turned a dead CFL (compact florescent light) into a CW transmitter. I think a little more stress is called for in the importance of not breaking the bulb. These things have what might seem like a small amount of mercury in them. However, I’ve heard several horror stories about the EPA getting involved and a very expensive environmental clean up due to dropping one of these things. I also find it ironic that it’s the greens (aka environmental wackos) who have pushed the widespread adoption of these things. I wonder what will happen when millions of these little time bombs find their way into the land-fills as what happens with blown incandescent bulbs. I had been playing around with Twitter some. At first it seemed like a fun little app useful for posting quickie blurbs about stuff without going to the point of writing a full fledged blog entry. I’ve since decided that it just isn’t that useful and shall discontinue my use of the system. It’s just one more thing for me to have to fool with that has very little, if any, benefit. Anyhow, no more twittering for me. When this blog post shows up on Twitter it’ll be my last post. Then as I find time I’ll remove the twitter module from my web site. -- Bryan Johns K4GDW

On Monday, I check in to the outpatient services desk at Jackson hospital here in Montgomery to have a PEG feeding tube installed as well as an IV infusion port. The feeding tube will make it possible for me to get plenty of fluids and calories to be able to recover and the infusion port will prevent them from having to stick me over and over in the arm or hand for the chemo. Please pray for a successful procedure and a fast recovery so I don’t miss much work. -- Bryan Johns K4GDW
